Costume Design
These images showcase my strengths in costume design and costume construction.
This costume was designed after the character Ursula from Disney's The Little Mermaid.  It was built from an original pattern that I created using black felt and lavender satin.  Each tentacle was strung with copper wire so that the tentacles had movement.  Additionally, the underside of each tentacle was lavender satin which had seams every three inches to imitate the texture of Ursula's skin as well as purple circles to represent her suckers.
These images are from the original play "Nowhere Fast" by Ashlynn Walker.  Using the sketch was provided to me by the designer, I built this dress from brown fabric that was matched to period textiles.  The pattern was compiled from several patterns to achieve a costume as close as possible to the original design.
This image from Company is of the character Joanne.  This dress was designed and built specifically for this character.  The dress is an empire waisted design based on several altered patterns.  The underskirt is made of black satin with a sheer black overlay.  The sleeves were made to bell out.  This dress was largely designed after costumes worn by the character of Endora on the television show Bewitched which was airing at the same time that this musical was set.
This double image shows my recreation of the opening dress from Gone With the Wind with a reference picture on the left of the dress as worn by Vivien Leigh designed by Walter Plunkett.  This was an existing costume that I hand tailored to fit a four year old child.  This showcases my skills in alteration.
This image shows the Minnie Mourse costume that I built for myself.  The inset image in the bottom left corner is of the Minnie Mouse head frame during my initial work on it.  It was first built from wire and tape.  Then it was covered in paper mache and allowed to dry.  Once dry I was able to sand and polish before painting it to complete the head.  I then built a costume to work with the head.
This image shows my costume design display for Vietnam 101: The War on Campus.  It was a large show, so it was not possible to include every image.  One of my favorite costumes that I built and designed for this show is the pale blue dress displayed next to the board.  This dress was built from period fabric that I located.  It was a costume from the beginning of the show, which was an innocent time, showcased in both line and in color of the dress.  As can be seen in the other images displayed on the board, over the course of the play the action became more violent and the colors became bolder and harsher to reflect this change.
